Researchers Still Aren’t Sure What Causes Autism

While there is no shortage of research being done on the causes of autism, we are still left with more questions than answers as to what’s going on. As one in about 110 boys being born today are being diagnosed with autism, parents are till trying to figure out if they are somehow responsible for their child’s condition or if there are environmental causes contributing to the affliction. Here are a few of the more popular theories about what is going on with autism diagnosis.

1.) More diagnosis are happening-It is the contention of some that there really aren’t all that many more cases of autism now than there was 20 years ago, it’s just that doctors are diagnosing it more now. While there is certainly an increased awareness of autism now, it is difficult for many to believe that there isn’t more to the problem.

2.) Genetic combinations- A popular theory regarding autism is that it’s the combination of genes in two parents that produce an autistic child. Indeed, while one person could procreate with someone and produce a child natural in every way, it could be possible for that same person to procreate with someone else and the combination of genes in those two people results in autistic children.

3.) Vaccinations- The early rap on autism was that it was coming from immunization shots they received as babies. Themerosal for instance received considerable blame for contributing to autism numbers. Many people now believe this is an unfounded claim and it’s rare now for the vaccinations to be blamed for autism rates.

Tips for Socializing Students With Aspergers

People who have Aspergers syndrome usually need some  help to improve their socializing skills, just like a lot of people who have autism. The things that come naturally to those who don’t have autism or Aspergers may require some more concentration for those who have one of these two conditions. Here are some tips for socializing a person who has Aspergers.

  • Education – The first thing that you should do is to incorporate education into socializing a person with Aspergers. Children who are young and have Aspergers may not be able to gasp the skills right away but they’ll learn the meanings of gestures eventually.
  • Professional Help for Socializing – The second thing that you want to do is to work with a counselor and psychologist for teaching and improving the social skills. Some that have the higher autism form have the capacity to learn socialism.  The therapies will often teach patients with Aspergers to recognize situations that are potential problems. Additionally, the professionals can teach as well as practice the strategies with patients so they’re better able to handle the situations.
  • Communication Using Pictures – The third thing that you should do is to use pictures to communicate.  For teaching the younger children socialization, incorporating picture stories into the child’s daily life is a important step for teaching things such as communicating feelings and sharing.
  • Assist them With Making Friends – Finally, those who have Aspergers are going to work well with a parent aid. It’s a good idea to find someone at their school that the student will be able to work with.

These are four things that you should remember when you are working to socialize a student who has Aspergers.  They can be taught and they are very intelligent. It’s just can be hard sometimes knowing how to handle them. The tips above will give some help with that.

Many of us have heard the word autism, but the majority of us don’t have an understanding of what really it means. One explanation for this is that there are so many different ranges within the autistic spectrum. Some may have an impairment in their communication and social skills, where others may simply have a sensory issue.

Autism is a developmental disorder that affects each person differently. Autism mainly hinders a person’s ability to live or interact in the world around them. Autism is a disorder that affects over 1.5 million Americans. That breaks down to approximately 1 out of every 110 children.

No one knows for sure how autism is developed. There is no known single cause. Recent scientific studies have indicated a genetic basis, however genetics can’t account for all the cases. Scientists are looking into different triggers that may be responsible; some of which are allergies to certain foods, environmental chemicals, problems in pregnancy and birth, and childhood vaccinations. While there is not a lot of research to substantiate the claim of vaccinations, the discussion seems to get more intense every day.

There is not any certain cure for Autism. Professionals do agree however that earliest treatment is best. As the degree of autism varies in individuals, the treatments will vary as well. Traditional medicine has been used in certain cases of autism, however there are also natural treatments that have yielded just as many successful results. Some of these treatments include educational and therapeutic approaches, dietary intervention, herbal and homeopathic remedies.

In the educational and therapeutic approaches specialized occupational, music, and speech therapies are developed specifically for the individual.

In dietary intervention, certain vitamin and mineral supplements are introduced as part of the treatment. Studies have also shown that certain food intolerances increase autistic symptoms. Foods such as gluten, dairy products and gluten have been removed from the diets of autistic children with great success.

By combining different therapies, it seems the best results are achieved.
