WHAT OILS MAY BE USED IN HOLISTIC MASSAGE?
A lot depends on the individual therapist who is performing the massage, but our therapists would recommend jojoba oil, sesame oil, grapeseed or almond oil.
Other therapists may prefer to work with an essential oil or something different, though. This may alter with the type of massage you go for.
WILL THE THERAPIST ASK ME ABOUT MY MEDICAL HISTORY?
Yes. Or, they certainly should do. Any good and qualified holistic therapist should ask you about your medical history and take it into account when tailoring your treatment. If they do not, this is not a therapist you should consider using.
HOW LONG WILL A HOLISTIC MASSAGE LAST?
A holistic massage could last anywhere between fifteen minutes and a couple of hours. Check with your therapist before booking!
SHOULD A HOLISTIC THERAPIST BE QUALIFIED?
Yes, someone who claims to be a holistic therapist should be qualified. All our featured therapists have the relevant qualifications and they have been verified independently.
SHOULD A HOLISTIC THERAPIST HAVE INSURANCE?
Yes, any reputable therapist should have an insurance certificate that they can show you. Make sure that they do have one!
All the practitioners featured in our guide are qualified and insured.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS AFTER A MASSAGE?
Most of the side effects are good ones – intense relaxation and a feeling of wellbeing.
Occasionally, people may feel a little light headed.
If you need to remain clear headed because perhaps you have to drive, please inform your therapist at the start of the session and they will try and tailor in a recovery period afterwards.
You will most likely be offered a glass of water and given time to rest after your session, in order not to be dehydrated or too disoriented after the treatment.
WILL I HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY UNDRESSED TO HAVE A MASSAGE?
No, you do not have to be completely undressed to have a massage. You may undress to your underwear.
Some massages may take place more or less fully clothed and the therapist will ask you to wear something loose and comfortable.
There is no pressure to take all your clothes off.
DOES A MASSAGE HAVE TO HURT TO BE EFFECTIVE?
No! A massage should never hurt. Even during a deep tissue or sports massage, it should never actually hurt.
Occasionally, a massage may go rather deep, but it should not be painful. Tell your therapist if your treatment hurts, and they will stop.
